The pandemic and pretty much all of 2020 was a year to be forgettable. But sometimes you have to look at the bright side of things. Let's look at some of the positives that came from 2020, or really, one big positive. You can now get alcohol-to-go in Texas! I gotta tell ya. Being able to go to Taco Cabana, get some great food and some margaritas to go is awesome!

If you're a fan of being able to get alcohol-to-go in Texas, you're in luck. It looks like it's close to becoming law. Last March Governor Abbott signed a waiver allowing restaurants to serve alcohol-to-go and since then he has hinted that he would like to make that change permanent. In some recent opening remarks, Abbott commented on his promise to make alcohol-to-go permanently legal, while also saying:

Over the next 140 days, we have the opportunity to not only respond to the challenges we face, but we also have an opportunity to put Texas on a trajectory to a future of even greater hope and opportunity. Now more than ever, Texans need the Legislature to succeed this session. But equally important, America needs Texas to lead the way. If we do this, then we will chart a course towards a healthier, safer, freer, and more prosperous future for every Texan.

"Healthier, safer, freer, and more prosperous." Ha! Now let's legalize more ways to get booze! Seriously though. Alcohol-to-go should be legal. It started as a way for restaurants and bars to deal with the shut down and keep their doors open. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it was a step in the right direction. 2020 showed us that there are some laws and ways of thinking that need to be seriously readdressed.
