Don’t Forget: New Times for EPISD Summer Meals Distribution
The El Paso Independent School District will continue to distribute free meals to families with children ages 1 to 18. Earlier this week, EPISD changed their times and dates for distributions and also reduced their distribution sites from 50 to 40. Children will receive take home breakfasts and lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Because the school year has officially ended (yay! We did it! It was a struggle at first, but we made it!) EPISD has set new times for you to be able to pick up your children's meals. You can pick up meals from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
If you think that it isn't worth it or safe to go and pick up these meals, think again. Pick up procedures are in compliance with social distancing rules, you make no contact with the distributor and everything is sealed and ready to go. It's also a huge bonus that these meals have nutritional and generous servings. At each pick up, children receive two breakfasts and two lunches. They also give a snack and fresh fruits and vegetables.
How do I know this? Because I have two nephews who benefit from this program. At the beginning, we didn't really think it was worth it to get the meals and we figured it was better to save the meals for someone who really needed them. But then we found out that if families don't take advantage of this program it could be removed, making it harder for children who are food insecure to get these free meals. So, we decided to make it a daily routine, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, my nephews and I take a daily walk to the distribution site to pick up their meals. Do I eat some of their carrot sticks? Maybe. Do I drink some of their chocolate milk? Okay. I told you, they're very generous and trust when I say that the food doesn't go to waste. So take advantage of this great program and find out where your nearest distribution site is by clicking here.
