It was originally set to reopen back in April, but the COVID-19 pandemic altered those plans slightly. But only by a couple of months as the Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park in downtown El Paso officially opened its doors on Wednesday, June 17th.

Directly from their website:

Welcome to The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park — a landmark property that has been reborn as El Paso’s most luxurious boutique hotel. Since its debut in the 1930s, The Plaza has commanded a striking position along the city’s skyline, welcoming A-listers such as Conrad Hilton, Elizabeth Taylor and other Hollywood’s elite and dignitaries. Now, the iconic 130-room hotel is reasserting itself as the starlet of the city and inviting both travelers and locals to step inside and make new, everlasting memories. Whatever draws you here to Texas, you’ll discover a singular stay at The Plaza, which embodies both its glamorous past as well as its modern revival.

The hotel was originally opened back in 1930 during the great depression and has remained a consistent part of the downtown El Paso skyline for almost a century, despite not being open for business for almost the past three decades. The hotel has been given a massive upgrade, to the tune of $78 million in renovations.

Developer Paul Foster said during the ribbon cutting ceremony:

If Conrad Hilton could open this hotel in the midst of the Great Depression, I'm sure we can handle this (pandemic)

The hotel had 7,600-square-feet of event space to go along with 130 rooms and artwork from Mexican and Texans artists.

Not everything is open yet though. Coming up in the fall, the hotel plans to open up the rooftop bar and restaurant, La Perla, which will be in the penthouse that Elizabeth Taylor stayed in while she was married to Nicky Hilton.

The hotel will also employ about 125 people and will feature another restaurant called the Ambar Resaurante. The restaurant will feature a 40-foot-tall amber glass wall, plus wood-fired Mexican cuisine.
