What's the deal with daylight saving time? No, seriously, I still don't think I fully understand why we even have daylight saving time. All I know is that twice a year, no matter which way we're changing the clock- for the following week I am in a fog.

Daylight saving time (yes, it's "saving" not "savings") begins this weekend. We'll be "springing forward" to longer daylight hours and we'll also be losing an hour. If you're like me, that first week after the time change is a struggle. My head is in a fog, my sleep schedule is out of wack and I'm basically living off of coffee and Red Bulls.

This year, I'm determined to conquer daylight saving time! Come Monday, I won't be a slave to the snooze button or try to drink my weight in cold brew. Here are some "hacks" to help you conquer this daylight saving time.

1. Gradually transition into the time change
According to John Tesh, starting one week before (that's today!) gradually transitioning to the time change is key. Set your alarm to wake up 15-20 minutes earlier, or go to bed 15-20 minutes earlier than you normally do.

2. Eat smart and choose sleep-inducing foods
By now, we all know that what we eat affects our daily life. Foods like almonds, cherries and bananas can guarantee that you get a good nights sleep to prepare for DST.

3. Get a quick workout
John Tesh, along with other experts, agree that while the time change may make you feel sluggish, but a brisk workout may help get you going; especially if you schedule an early morning workout!

With these simple tips, I'm sure this is the year I conquer DST! May the odds be ever in your favor!
