Last month, Cinemark Theaters announced a phased reopening on their 500+ theaters across the nation. Cinemark even released a full video with their CEO Mark Zoradi explaining exactly how they plan on reopening- it was actually enough to convince me to go to the movies.

The first phase of reopening was set to start on June 19th in Dallas, Plano and McKinney, those theaters are currently open. In El Paso, two of our theaters, Cinemark 20 and XD  and Cinemark West and XD, were set to open on July 10th. Unfortunately, the rise in cases in our county delayed the reopening on Cinemark theaters.

Now, Cinemark is deciding to continue with their reopening's and that includes one El Paso theater: Cinemark 20 and XD. The theater, located at 11855 Gateway East, is opening up on Friday, July 31st. Because studios are not releasing any of their big movies, Tenet is scheduled to start premiering on September 3rd in the U.S., Cinemark plans on showing "classic" titles at discounted prices. Movies like The Greatest Showman, Beetlejuice and The Goonies for $5 for adults and $3 for children. You can find movies and showtimes here. Cinemark is also providing private watch parties for you and up to 20 guests.

It has been so long since I've been to a movie theater! I was informed that the movie theater at Bassett is open, and they are showing some new films, but with rising cases in our county and studio's delaying movies, it's hard to figure out when or if other theaters will be reopening. I know for sure my favorite movie theater won't be coming back after this pandemic, it's been announced that Cinemark's Movie Bistro inside Sunland Park Mall will not be reopening.
