I had to think long and hard about whether to write this article or not. I’m not concerned in the least that this is somehow unfair to the people highlighted. All of this is from their own social media. They’re PROUD that they were there. Most of them are encouraging more of the same.

The ONLY thing that gives me a moment’s pause is this: am I being irresponsible by amplifying their misguided views? To be as clear as I can be, the belief that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump has no basis in fact. Courts have rejected it over 60 times. The President’s own Attorney General (now FORMER Attorney General) emphatically stated that the DOJ found no evidence. Congress has now certified it. As wrong as these people are, as long as they didn’t break the law, they were within their rights to be there. Some of them know it’s a lie. Some of them sincerely believe the lie. But all of them are public figures and they all “repped” our city and region. It’s time for them to stand up and be recognized.

Here are the local MAGA celebrities who were in Washington for the protests on January 6th.

  • Couy Griffin

This is Couy Griffin. He’s currently a County Commissioner in Otero County, New Mexico and the founder of Cowboys 4 Trump. Cowboys for Trump has nothing to do with Dallas Football and everything to do with racism, calls for political violence and sedition.

Griffin claims that he never entered the Capitol building or broke the law. There’s a video that shows him proudly “broadcasting” from the Capitol Steps so if that was inside some kind of security perimeter it would argue that he was at least trespassing.

It’s unclear at this moment if Griffin broke any laws. The next day he did put out a video calling the day of riots “an amazing day”. He also said, “blood will be running out of that building (The Capitol) and also hinted that a “second American Revolution” could be coming.

Griffin continues to hold his county commissioner post but many of his constituents in Alamogordo say he is rarely to be seen in Otero County because he’s off someplace else. Literally, “grand-standing”.

  • ANTHONY AGUERO

Aguero ran, extremely unsuccessfully, in the Republican primary for District 16. In a video HE recorded, he admitted (or at least claimed) that he was inside the Capitol Building when Air Force veteran and MAGA rioter Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by Capitol police.

Aguero, a self-styled “pro-police law and order” candidate refers to the Washington DC police “despicable”. As a person who claimed to have been inside the Capitol, Aguero seems like just the kind of person that the FBI has expressed interest in speaking to. According to KTSM, Aguero is planninga “Latinos for Trump Caravan to D.C.” for Joe Biden’s inauguration next week.

  • BETHANY HATCH

Hatch ran and lost for the Texas Senate and 2020. She and a contingent of area Trump supporters went to D.C. to protest the results of the election. (Surprisingly, none of these former candidates thought to protest their OWN 2020 losses).

President Trump has announced he will not attend the inauguration on Jan 20. As we move forward through the next two...

According to Hatch, she didn’t participate in any of the illegal activity. Here’s what she posted the day after:

I did not participate in the events at the Capitol. I did not even come near the police line, let alone walk past the barriers when police opened them up. I do not condone the violence, but I do believe we are seeing a culmination of anger and despair due to the failure of elected officials. And I do not apologize for supporting President Trump. And I never will.

On the way to D.C. she posed for photos with like-minded Trump supporters on the plane.

She also posed, maskless, at a D.C. eatery with her familiar, Kendal Brown Jessup, where she bragged about being an anti-masker.
